Chrome Extension Privacy Disclosures (Comment Bot)
This section covers the "Comment Bot - Comment Automation" Chrome extension (Item ID jkfaaimjlhfhciongjaebdainmeknkkc) and is written to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy. The General Privacy Policy further below applies to our websites.
A. What We Collect
Passwords. The extension never asks for, collects, stores, or transmits any password, including your Google password and your Instagram password. Sign-in uses Google OAuth through Chrome's built-in identity API, which returns only an access token, your email address, and your Google account ID. Commenting relies on the Instagram session you have already logged into in your own browser. The extension does not show an Instagram login form and has no way to read your Instagram credentials.
The categories of user data the extension handles are listed below. Categories not listed are not collected.
-
Google account email and Google account ID (only if you sign in). Obtained through Google OAuth (scope:
userinfo.email). Used to create and identify your extension account, check your subscription status, and track your free usage quota.
-
Instagram session cookies (local use only). The extension reads two cookies from instagram.com in your browser:
ds_user_id (your Instagram user ID) and csrftoken. They are used only to send requests to instagram.com on your behalf, such as loading posts and posting the comments you set up. These cookies are never sent to our servers or to any third party.
-
Bot settings and comment content (local only). The targets you enter (Instagram accounts, hashtags, or post links), the comment templates you write, your delay and limit settings, and the history of comments the bot has posted are stored only in your browser's extension storage (
chrome.storage.local).
-
Public Instagram post information (local only). To find posts to comment on, the extension loads public information from Instagram, such as post IDs, post links, thumbnails, and usernames. This is shown in the extension and kept only in local storage.
-
Usage metadata. An install event, the extension version, your subscription status, and your free usage count. This contains no comment content, no Instagram data, and no credentials.
-
Subscription metadata (only if you upgrade). Your selected plan, extension version, product name, and account ID, used to start a checkout or open the billing portal.
We explicitly do NOT collect:
- Passwords or other login credentials of any kind.
- Personally identifiable information beyond the email and Google account ID listed above (no name, address, phone number, or date of birth).
- Instagram direct messages, private account content, your followers or following lists, or any Instagram data from your account on our servers.
- Financial information (card details are handled only by our payment providers), health information, location, or device sensor data.
- Browsing history or data from websites other than instagram.com.
B. How It's Handled
-
Commenting runs in your browser. The extension opens Instagram in a tab and uses your existing Instagram session to post the comments you configured, at the pace you set. Requests go directly from your browser to instagram.com. Your comments and targets do not pass through our servers.
-
Sign-in uses tokens, not passwords. Your Google password is entered only on Google's own sign-in page. The extension receives an OAuth token, uses it once to read your email and Google account ID from Google, and then signs you in to our account backend.
-
Account data is used only for authentication and quota. Your email, Google account ID, and session token are sent over HTTPS to our authentication backend to sign you in, check your Pro status, and manage your free quota.
-
Limited use. We use this data only to provide and improve the extension's single purpose of automating comments on Instagram. We do not use it for advertising, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to the extension, and no human reads it except when needed for security, legal compliance, or when you ask us for support.
C. Where It's Stored
-
On your device (
chrome.storage.local). Your bots, comment templates, comment history, settings, free usage counter, and session token. We keep no copy of your bots, comments, or Instagram data. Removing the extension or clearing its data deletes them.
-
Our account backend (hosted in the United States). Your email, Google account ID, install event, subscription status, and usage counts. Account records are kept while your account is active and deleted on request.
D. How It's Shared
-
Google. Standard OAuth sign-in. Google returns your email and account ID to the extension.
-
Instagram. Your browser sends requests to instagram.com using your own Instagram session, in order to load posts and post the comments you set up.
-
Our account backend. Receives your email, Google account ID, and session token for authentication and quota management.
-
Our image proxy service. Receives only the public Instagram image URL of a post thumbnail or profile picture so it can be displayed inside the extension. No account data is sent.
-
Payment providers (Paddle and Stripe). Receive your account ID, selected plan, extension version, and product name to start a checkout or manage your subscription. Card details are handled by the payment provider under its own privacy policy and are never seen or stored by us.
- We do NOT sell or rent user data, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing partners.
- We do NOT transfer your comment content, bot settings, or Instagram data to any third party.
- We may disclose limited account information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or ourselves (see section 3 below).
E. Your Choices and Data Deletion
- You can view and edit your bots, comments, and comment history in the extension at any time, and delete them by removing the extension or clearing its storage.
- You can sign out from the extension at any time. To revoke the extension's Google access, visit your Google Account permissions page.
- To request a copy or deletion of your account data, email convertscc[at]gmail.com from the email address you signed in with. We respond within 30 days.
